Collar

With RS facing and smaller needles, starting at bottom right front, pick up 3 sts for every 4 rows on vertical section before decreases begin, pick up 1 st for every row along diagonal neckline, pm, knit across sts on hold for collar, pm, pick up sts for left front as for right, ending with an odd-numbered total st count.

Row 1 (WS): P1, *k1, p1; repeat from * to end, slipping markers.

Short Rows 3–4: Work to marker, sm, work 6 more sts, W&T, work to second marker, sm, work 6 more sts, W&T.

Short Rows 5–6: Work to second marker, sm, work 12 more sts, W&T, work to second marker, sm, work 12 more sts, W&T.

Short Rows 7–8: Work to second marker, sm, work 18 more sts, W&T, work to second marker, sm, work 18 more sts, W&T.

Short Rows 9–11: Work to second marker, sm, work 24 more sts, W&T, work to second marker, sm, work 24 more sts, W&T, continue in pat to end of row.

Short Rows 12–14: Work to second marker, sm, work 30 more sts, W&T, work to second marker, sm, work 30 more sts, W&T, continue in pat to end of row.

Short Rows 15–17: Work to second marker, sm, work 36 more sts, W&T, work to second marker, sm, work 36 more sts, W&T, continue in pat to end of row.

Next row (WS): Work in pat, picking up remaining wraps and removing markers.

Buttonhole row: Place markers for buttonholes 1"/2.5 cm from the CO edge at left front and 10"/ 25 cm from CO edge, with 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) markers spaced evenly in between. Work in pattern, working a one-row three-stitch button-hole (see page 29) at each marker.

Work 3 more rows in rib. BO loosely in rib.
